Univision Communications’ news channel and ABC News, which is owned by Walt Disney (NYSE:DIS), are creating a cable channel geared to Hispanics. But the difference here is that the channel will broadcast news 24/7 in English instead of Spanish. That’s because a growing number of Hispanic-Americans are born in the U.S. and have selected English as their native tongue, The Wall Street Journal reported.
“This joint venture is an extension of our vision to deliver the most relevant news and information, regardless of language, to all Hispanics,” Univision Networks President Cesar Conde told the WSJ.
The new channel will turn on sometime during 2013. However, its website and social media pages will launch this summer — so the new channel won’t miss out on covering the 2012 presidential election.
