Intel Reportedly In Preliminary Settlement Of FTC Charges

Intel (INTC) has reached a preliminary settlement of the Federal Trade Commission probe of the company’s marketing practices, Reuters reports, citing a source close to the government agency.

The deal would reportedly give the company less leeway in how it sells products, but would not involve any monetary damages.

The story says that Intel will be required to extend changes required under its settlement last November with Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) to graphics chips. The deal would also regulate Intel’s use of volume discounts for both CPUs and graphics chips.

Reuters reports that the preliminary deal has been approved by FTC lawyers, but that it still requires approval of the commissioners, and could still fall apart.

Intel said only that “discussions are ongoing.”
