Michael Baker Jr., Inc., an engineering unit of Michael Baker Corporation (NYSE Amex:BKR), announced today that it has been awarded a $5 million engineering contract from Alaska’s Department of Natural Resources. The goal of this project is to evaluate alternatives for a pipeline system to deliver natural gas from the North Slope of Alaska to in-state Alaskan markets; determine a valid pre-feasibility level estimate for the cost of gas transport; determine a right-of-way, and evaluate associated construction and logistics requirements. Baker will also be responsible for providing support for environmental permitting for this approximately 700-mile-long pipeline project.
Ivanhoe Mines (NYSE: IVN) has noted the bi-partisan vote that has just occurred today in Mongolia’s State Great Khural (national Parliament) in which members present voted 63.3% in favour of a resolution that authorizes the Government of Mongolia to conclude a long-term, definitive Investment Agreement with Ivanhoe Mines and Rio Tinto for the development and operation of the Oyu Tolgoi copper-gold mining complex in southern Mongolia.

CONSOL Energy Inc. (NYSE: CNX) executive told Senators yesterday that the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009, passed recently by the US House of Representatives, was “the wrong plan for America.” Steven Winberg, Vice President, Research and Development, along with a panel of fossil fuel experts, made the comments during a roundtable discussion hosted by U.S. Senators Tom Carper (D-Del.) and George Voinovich (R-Ohio), and urged the two senators to reconsider key provisions of the bill, including the targets and timetables for emission reductions as well urging the addition of cost containment provisions.
